The Government announced at the end of November the further extension of access to the PUP. Whereas the cut-off date had been 31st December 2020, new applicants will be able to apply for the payment up to the 31st March 2021. The extension to the 31st March 2021 brings applications for PUP in line with other government payments schemes and provisions.
This has brought some peace of mind to employees who may be become unemployed after the Christmas period but also to employers. There was a fear that employees may chose not to return to work for the busy Christmas period as they would be unable to access the PUP payment in the New Year. The announcement has brought clarity to the situation. See Press Release
However, with the early lock-down announced today, further incentives and assistance is expected for employees and employers.
