The Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment recently published the Sectoral Employment Order (Construction Sector) 2023 (“the Order”) which has been approved by the Oireachtas. This Order will come into operation on 18th September 2023 and amends the Sectoral Employment Order (Construction Sector) 2021.
The Order will apply to workers in the construction sector to include craft persons, construction operatives and apprentices. It will introduce an increase in minimum wage rates and amendments to pension contribution rates, with a further increase to apply from 5th August 2024.
From 18th September 2023, the following minimum hourly rates of basic pay will apply:
Craftsperson – €21.49 per hour
Category A Worker – €20.86 per hour
Category B Worker – €19.35 per hour
Apprentice
From 5th August 2024, the minimum hourly rates of pay will increase further as follows:
Craftsperson – €22.24 per hour
Category A Worker – €21.59 per hour
Category B Worker – €20.03 per hour
Apprentice
A minimum hourly rate of basic pay will also apply to new entrant operative workers for the first two years, €15.64 from 23rd September 2023 and €16.19 from 5th August 2024.
From 18th September 2023, the following minimum pension contributions will apply:
Employer daily rate – €5.96 (weekly – €29.78)
Employee daily rate – €3.97 (weekly €19.87)
Total contribution daily into the scheme per worker – €9.93 (weekly €49.65)
From 5th August 2024 the pension contribution will increase as follows:
Employer daily rate – €6.17 (weekly – €30.82)
Employee daily rate – €4.11 (weekly €20.57)
Total contribution daily into the scheme per worker – €10.28 (weekly €51.39).
